On
Friday, 21 February 2020 at 7.30 pm our History Salon in the Beginenhof
Erkelenzdamm 51/ common room – 10999 Berlin will be dealing with a current
topic: “Testimonials from the uterus” Film about the health care
for refugee women by and with Women in Exile and among others with Petra
Bentz from the Feminist Women’s Health Centre e.V. in Berlin
In the
film, three refugee women talk about their different experiences with their
health problems and how the health system treats them as asylum seekers.
Experts who support refugees also share their thoughts on what it means to be a
non-citizen in order to gain access to the German health system. The film lasts
about 30 minutes and is in German, or with German subtitles.
Women from
the initiative of Women in Exile, which was founded in Brandenburg in 2002 to
fight for their rights, will come to us from Potsdam, show the film, report on
their work and be available for discussion (Moderation: Gisela Notz)
From this judgement it is clear how the court is pretentious giving the fine to a women shelter to show solidarity to women while criminalising and taking rights of refugee women to assemble. This shows how the system is pitting us against the rest of the society. It is meant to distract and diminish refugee women´s issues by restricting our right of assembly.
It is ironical when a judge takes money from a supporter of one vunerable group and giving it to the other so as to seem to be supporting vunerable women in the society. These papers carried the messages of our usual demand and nothing more. This is very clear in various media reports such as:
For Women in Exile & Friends this year 2019 was a moving year full of Women* Power.
We decided to walk together and far rather than fast and alone so therefore we would like to thank all of you very much for your company, solidarity and support. THANK YOU!
Only together we could realize all the actions and facing the challenges successfully. We would like to look back at the highlights of the year and share our future vision for 2020.
The remains of our sister Rita Awour Ojunge
was finally given to the family for burial. She was laid to rest on the 14.
Dezember 2019.
Rita repeatedly reported sexual harassment
in the Hohenleipisch refugee camp, she was living in. But no step were taking.
On the 7. April 2019 she was reported missing. It took almost three months for
her remains to be found 200 metres away from the camp in the forest. Rita was
32 years old. She left behind two small children.
Women in Exile & Friends is among the
family, friends and other organisations demanding to know: why did it took the
police so long to find Rita`s remains? Who murdered her? How safe are the camps
for women and children if reported sexual harassment has no consequences? Why
has the camp in the wood near by Hohenleipisch not been closed, although the
residents wrote an open letter to the authorities demanding it`s closure?!
Our fight for „Justice for Rita“ and „No Lager for women and children“, „ Abolish all Lagers!“ continues.
Women in Exile together with IPPNW are organizing a screening of our film “Testimonials from the Uterus”, which will be followed by a panel discussion. It will take place on 18.12 at Kino Moviemento from 20h-22h address: Kottbusser Damm 22, 10967 Kreuzberg, Berlin, Germany
We celebrate this day by inviting all to work together to end:
Systematic violations of fundamental human rights – to life, to dignity, to work, to health, to seek a future – that refugee and migrant peoples are experiencing on their journeys of forced displacement, on the borders as well as within the Fortress Europe.
Policies of the European Commission and Member States on – zero possibilities for regular pathways to migrate; externalization and securitization of borders and Agreements such the EU-Turkey, Italy-Libya, widespread detention of migrants and refugee peoples; practice of necropolitics forbidding sea rescue.
On Monday 25.11 we went on a Bus Tour to Brandenburg, to ask for justice for Rita and abolish all lagers.
We started at Oranienplatz, where the solibus was waiting us. The bus was full and we had extra cars, so around 65 people started the ride at 11h towards Herzberg our first stop.
After 2h ride, we stopped in front of the Auslanderbehörde where we held the following speech, to create awareness on Rita’s unclear death, the situation of women in lagers, institucional racism, sexism and discrimination.
Building Bridges Festival took place between 26-28 July 2019 in Oranienplatz. It was a moment to take back Oplatz as a place of reference for the refugee movement in the public space and where many fights have been won.
This time it was through a Festival that women* brought the feminist perspective of refugee women on refugee issues and opened a conversation with other feminist groups on how to build up a intersectional feminism. The following video, is part of a mobile reporting workshop, facilitated by Kameradisten.org and offered by Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung.
We also have to thank the area of migration and Africa department of Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung the financial support for our festival, thanks to which we could make it happen.
