 For a true right of residence for people classified as ‚tolerated pending deportation‘ over a number of years! Demonstration on 5th December 2014 at 2 pm, Potsdamer Platz
On the 3rd of December 2014, the Federal Government will publish a draft of the awkwardly titled law: “for the redefinition of the right of residence and the termination of residence”. However, the announced regulation of the right of residence for those who have been classified for years as ‚tolerated pending deportation‘ will benefit almost none of those living with this classification. Instead, this law represents the most comprehensive restriction of the right to asylum since 1993. All refugees who are registered in another EU country and are therefore subject to the ‚Dublin Regulation‘ are to be locked up in detention centres pending deportation. This affects around a third of all refugees.
Tolerated‘ refugees held hostage to reasons of state
Around 95,000 refugees live in Germany with “Duldung”, or “tolerated” status. 22,000 have had this status for over 10 years. The state would like to deport them, but is unable to due to ‚obstacles to deportation‘, for example the lack of a passport. For decades, a war has been waged against these ‚tolerated persons‘. Their lives are to be made as unbearable as possible, in order to coerce them into ‚co-operation‘ in passport acquisition. They are barred from working, are subjected to “Residenzpflicht” (‚residential obligation‘, forbidding unapproved travel into other federal states), are forced to live in camps and receive reduced social support. They are condemned to a life outside the borders of society, without chances or perspectives for the future.

The Federal Government has put into place a new law with the help of the green-red coalition in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg, and is planning two more laws.
These laws are designed to make life even harder for refugees. It is anticipated that all three laws be enforced within one year.

On August 1, 2014, the Constitutional Court nullified the anti-homosexuality law, because it was passed without quorum.
Homosexuality is still criminal under the Ugandan National Constitution (UNC) and the Penal Code Act (PCA). The annulled law is providing for life imprisonment for “aggravated homosexuality” and banns the “promotion of homosexuality”. The law is most likely to be re-tabled in the aftermath of the Constitutional Court’s decision. continue reading

antirascist demo – july 5th – 2 pm – hermannplatz – berlin
For about eighteen months the former Gerhart-Hauptmann-school at Ohlauer Straße in Berlin´s Kreuzberg neighborhood has been occupied by refugees from different countries. But on the 24th of June the district of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg initiated the eviction of the school´s inhabitants. With 900 policemen, some of them heavily armed, the peaceful occupants have been forced to ‘leave voluntarily’. Some of them have been brought to special accommodations on the periphery of Berlin. Others, who were not inside the school at the time of the forced relocation are homeless now. They have been refused the right to stay in the state-run mass accommodations designated for asylum seekers.

Since 1997, inter*, trans*, lesbians, queens, queers, bisexuals, out-of-genders, gays and supporters roll, walk and dance through Kreuzberg for this event. Some old and some new brooms, some with high heels and some without share the opinion that we must do it again this year.
We think it is important to show how over the years, Kreuzberg has grown a cooperation that has been fought for and that is lived every day. The life in this neighbourhood is shaped by different ways of life, needs, backgrounds and realities.
What has been fought for, what has been achieved, we will celebrate on this day.
What there is still to do, what there is still to fight for, we bring to the streets.

In June 2013 Women in Exile and others protested in Potsdam against refugees being housed in containers and against a newly implemented procedure which makes it very difficult for refugees to get a flat.
Before they allowed refugees to move from the “Heim” they had to go through an examination procedure to proof that they are able to live in their own flats. That examination procedure includes special interviews with Sozialamt and Ausländerbehörde. These interviews were meant to discriminate refugees in the sense that good ones are able to separate garbage, they the are able to honour the German tradition of afternoon quieteness when neighbours are taking Siesta etc. Continue reading our protest in Potsdam succeeded

Refugee women are getting loud! Action tour across Germany
Dangerous journeys, pushed around all over Europe, housed in collective homes which are often far away from any infrastructure, vouchers, work ban, a daily fight for adequate medical care, permanent fear of being deported … and in addition sexism, as each woman experiences on top of that … we refugee women have every reason to get loud and to demand a life in human dignity.
We invite all refugee women to get loud together with us!
In summer 2014, we want to participate, along with other refugee women, in a project of the musician Heinz Ratz and his band Strom & Wasser: On rafts we will travel on rivers and canals, from July 14^th to August 27th, from Nuremberg to Berlin. This will be a floating demonstration to draw attention to the situation of refugee women and children, and to loudly voice our demands in public.
In addition there will be a general programme in the refugee camps, where we will want to get in touch with refugee women and talk with them about their needs and problems and invite them to attend the evening concerts of “Strom and Water featuring The Refugee Women”. Then these evening concerts will become an encounter between the German audience and refugee women. You can find the dates of the tour at: http://www:strom-wasser.de
We want to use this tour together with you to network with refugee women, other refugee organisations and to talk with refugee women all over Germany. We will report on our experiences during the trip on a web blog. That way we will document the situation of refugee women in Germany and make public our and your demands and your and our resistance.
