Speech from Women in Exile in front of the libyian embassy on the 25th of november in Berlin

The European policy on refugees crossing mandate has now been extended to African countries and leaders. This is as a result of a lot of money being given and more promised to African leaders whose countries are used by refugee’s en-route to Europe. The aim is to do all what is in their power to stop refugees and migrants entering Europe. This cooperation is making it very tough for those who want to migrate.

The worst of this cooperation is between Libya and the EU, where scores of refugees are being accommodated in inhuman conditions. The majority of who are being hunted, caught, enslaved and sold as slaves. This happens to those hunted on land and those being driven back from the sea by agencies working for the EU after paying hefty bribes to the smugglers. Thank you for supporting our Conference!

We want to thank everybody who contributed to the success of our national wide conference “Women* Breaking Borders” 22-24.09.17, and our conference kick of demonstration 21.09.17.

Without all of you, it would not have been possible to have this conference this way. On Saturday, we were around 300 participating women*, 40 children and at least 50 people doing all the background work. Wow! Concerning the organization and infrastructure, there is always something to improve, but no one thought that things would go that smoothly. Thanks! Opening Statement

“Women* Breaking Borders” Conference 22-24.09.2017
Celebrating 15 years of Women in Exile

For us, Women in Exile & Friends, the organizers of this conference, it is very important to bring to the attention of all participants, what we mean by borders. This is a solidarity empowerment conference for those who identify themselves as women* and for those who want to learn together with us in our workshops on how to dismantle racist and sexist borders.

We have experienced borders from different areas, including borders between ourselves as refugees and/or refugees and supporters. Some of us experienced gender borders as women* in our familes and in the society in our countries of origin. We also faced racist and sexist borders when we were crossing frontiers. Then the visible and invisible borders confronting us everyday in the Lagers in this country.

The authorities divide us into wanted and unwanted refugees, those tolerated with no chance of staying, those with limited stay and those who should be integrated into the society, “but for how long”? Recently refugees from Afghanistan, Kosovo, and Iraq to mention just but a few, who were welcomed a few years back are being deported, though it is an open secret that these countries are far from safe.

These divisions are meant to build hierarchies between refugees by making some feel that they have more rights than others and leaves others with the impression of being even more discriminated. For 15 years we have been fighting to change this political concept and we want to continue with your solidarity regardless of who you are or where you are from. Our aim is and has always been to enable refugees who identifying themselves as women* to stand up for our rights as women* living in this society.

We call upon all of us to participate in this conference with an open mind, reflecting on our own prejudices and privileges.

We declare no borders are high, low, wide or solid enough when women* unite.

Right to come!!
Right to go!!
Right to STAY!!

21.09.2017 Demonstration Women* Breaking Borders

THURSDAY 21.09.2017 at 16:30 at ORANIENPLATZ

FEMINIST FIGHTS ARE FOR ALL OF US!!!

In solidarity with our conference from September 22-24, join our “Women* Breaking Borders” Demonstration and let’s get loud together. The politicians are changing the laws governing refugees weekly and make it more difficult to enter Europe. At the same time, they are trying to deport as many of us as possible, even risking injury and death. On the 24.09. those with the privilege of voting will cast their vote. We, who don’t have this right even if we are living in this society for years, ask you to join us in the streets and shout out loud and clear that NO BORDER WILL BE HIGH, DEEP, LONG OR SOLID ENOUGH TO STOP US IF WE COME UNITED!

Leaflet about Health

In the frame of our project on health, we came up with a leaflet on health which we are handing out during our Heim visits. All are welcome to print it or order some copies from us and distribute them as well. So far the English and German version are available, other languages will follow soon.

FOR THE RIGHT TO HEALTH FOR ALL REFUGEE WOMEN*!

Protest against Lagers continues

Last week, we went to the Lager in Teltow which is supposed to be closed by tomorrow due to expiration of the renting contract. Here you find out press release (in German) and an article about the protest of the women against the transfer to a very far lager in Brück, that was published by a Potsdam based newspaper today:

In Berlin, the struggle against Lagers continues: In the “emergency shelter” Neidstraße, women are protesting against the food they have to eat. For 6 days already, refugees from Brienner Straße are fighting on the street in front of their lager against the conditions inside and against the transfer to Marzahn.
We support the women, children and men in claiming their rights and continue to demand:
NO LAGER FOR WOMEN – ABOLISH ALL LAGERS!

We need your Solidarity to Stop Deportation

The most pressing problem at the moment facing refugee women is deportation. This topic is dominating all our meetings. 3 out of 5 women are living in fear of being deported either back to their country of origin or to another European country (Dublin II cases). This is a result of the new laws whose target is to deport as many refugees as possible. Women and children are having sleepless nights because of deportation fears. Many women are depressed and stressed to a point that our meetings have become a space for fleeing their fears and stresses.          Foto: Umbruch Bildarchiv Continue reading We need your Solidarity to Stop Deportation
